Folks across the Rio Grande Valley woke up to record cold this morning. Overnight lows dipped into the mid 50's by dawn which is nearly 20 degrees below normal.
McAllen reached 54, Harlingen dropped to 54 while Brownsville bottomed out at 55.
Brownsville's record low for this date has stood for nearly a century at 58 set back in 1917 while both Harlingen and McAllen record lows for this date reached 55 back in 1976.
Expect cool conditions again tonight with clear skies, dry air and calm winds allowing overnight temperatures to drop back into the mid 50's putting more records in jeopardy.
