Severe weather threatens entire Valley

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the entire Rio Grande Valley until 7pm but this is only the beginning of what promises to be a prolonged potential for powerful precipitation, hail, winds and lightning across the valley the rest of the week.

Storms are already developing along a weak frontal boundary, this first round of rain and thunderstorms is expected to grow and move eastward tonight. Winds in excess of 60mph, heavy rain, frequent lightning and large hail can all happen with these storms.

A second weather element is brewing way out west in the form of an upper level low pressure center which is forecast to move east across Texas firing up rain and strong thunderstorms for the valley through the end of the week.
