Weslaco is on a roll.
The Mid-Valley city is landing franchise after franchise.
Over the past year, the city of 36,000 people has landed some big businesses.
Olive Garden, Chuck E. Cheese, Longhorn Steakhouse and Arturo TMs have all made their homes there.
But now, Applebee TMs is setting up shop on the southwest corner of Westgate Drive and Expressway 83.
City officials are planning to hold a groundbreaking ceremony but a date and time remain pending.
The new restaurant will be a sports bar prototype with a sleek, stone face and 14 flat-screen TVs for sports fans.
Scheduled to open in late December 2013, the restaurant will have memorabilia highlighting the town TMs landmarks, events and athletic teams the Weslaco Panther and Weslaco East Wildcats.
Applebee TMs has about 2,000 restaurants in 49 states and 15 countries.
There are four locations in the Rio Grande Valley with one in Harlingen, two in McAllen and one in Edinburg.
The Weslaco location will make the Valley TMs fifth Applebee TMs.
