View of Venus from the valley
Tue, 05 Jun 2012 19:43:46 GMT —
The planet Venus, our planetary neighbor, will pass in front of the sun later this evening.
It's called the Transit of Venus and it will look like a miniature eclipse as the 2nd planet travels across the path between the earth and the sun.
Best time to view this event will be at 5p and it should last for 6hours 45 minutes.
Don't look at the sun! If you don't know the pinhole trick with a shoebox or paper bag then play it safe and watch this spectacular event on NASA's live video stream from the observatory in Hilo, Hawaii. http://venustransit.nasa.gov/transitofvenus/
You don't need to risk blindness when you have the Internet.
BTW this won't happen again until the year 2117. If you are old enough to read this odds are you won't live to see it again.
