Money Talks News: Best and Worst Things to Buy in January

Every month there are shopping deals - and duds - out at the stores.

And every month we turn to partner site Deal News, for the best -- and worst -- buys. First on the January bargain list? Equipment to help you keep your New Year's resolutions.

"Look for stationary bikes, treadmills, elliptical trainers and complete home gyms marked from 30 to 70 percent off."

Another buy: furniture.

"Several manufacturers release their brand new 2014 furniture collections in February, which forces retailers to cut and clear inventory on older 2013 models in January, which means it's an excellent time to shop.

Final good buy: clothing.

"We typically see between 50 and 80 percent off on winter clothing, coats and accessories."

Those are some of your best January deals. But what about duds? What should you be avoiding at the stores this month?

"You have to wait into April, at least, to get about ten percent off a brand new gaming console."

Bottom line... Like every month, there are things you should buy in January, and things you should avoid.

You want a more complete list? We work with Deal News to supply you with just that.
