1 dead, 1 injured after car crash in Rio Grande City
A Rio Grande City teen died after a car crash Friday night, according to a Maria Montalvo, a spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Victoria Garza, 19, of Rio Grande City was pronounced dead on the scene after sustaining major injuries.
The driver, who has not been identified, was transported to a McAllen hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.
Troopers say the single-vehicle crash occurred at about 9:23 p.m. on U.S. Highway 83 east of Montalvo Hill.
Preliminary investigation reveals a white Mustang--occupied by the driver and Garza-- was traveling on U.S. Highway 83 when it lost control and veered off the road into a brushy area, striking thick branches.
Troopers continue to investigate the crash.
