$1 million dollar bonds for aggravated kidnapping in Edinburg

Two men charged with aggravated kidnapped

Two men are behind bars under $1 million dollar bonds after state troopers arrested them in connection to an aggravated kidnapping investigation.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers arrested 31-year-old Rolvin Rivera and 26-year-old Eduardo Alan Salas on Monday.

Investigators are remaining tight-lipped but Action 4 News obtained court records that show the investigation started when an illegal immigrant escaped from a stash house.

The immigrant told state troopers that others were also being held against their will at a house on the 7400 block of Flamingo Avenue just northeast of Edinburg.

State troopers stopped Rivera and Salas when they were leaving the home in a car.

Salas allegedly tried to destroy his cell phone before state troopers could seize it.

Authorities searched the home and found 27 illegal immigrants inside.

Investigators charged both men with aggravated kidnapping and smuggling of persons charges but Salas is also facing a tampering with evidence charge.

Both men remain in custody at the Hidalgo County Jail where Rivera has $1 million dollars in bonds and Salas has $1.1 million dollars in bonds.

Jail records show that authorities also filed immigration detainers against both men.
