More than 10 tons of marijuana is off the streets following raids along several drugs busts in an area known as the 'Frontera Chica' or 'Little Border.'

Mexico's Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) confirmed the busts happened near the cities of Ciudad Mier, Miguel Aleman and Diaz Ordaz on Thursday.

Mexican soldiers reported seizing 833 packages with more than 16,000 pounds of marijuana along the Rio Grande River outside Ciudad Mier.

Another 76 packages with 1,543 pounds of marijuana was seized in nearby Miguel Aleman.

Soldiers seized another 144 packages with more than 2,600 pounds of marijuana along the Rio Grande River in the rural community of Valladeces just outside the City of Diaz Ordaz.

SEDENA officials reported more marijuana, weapons, ammunition and two abandoned vehicles were seized that same day outside Matamoros.

Soldiers also another package with more marijuana in the Port of Altamira.

No arrests have been reported as part of the seizures but SEDENA officials said the cases remain under investigation by Mexican federal authorities.
