$200K in bonds for Brownsville sex abuse suspect

Francisco Antonio Leija

A man accused of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl faced a judge on Tuesday morning.

Authorities took 20-year-old Francisco Antonio Leija into custody at the Gateway International Bridge early Monday morning.

Leija was returning from Matamoros when customs officers learned he was wanted on two warrants.

Brownsville police told Action 4 News that Leija is facing aggravated sexual assault of a child and continuous sexual abuse of a child charges.

Investigators said the sexual assault is alleged to have taken place sometime in early to mid 2010.

Police said a 10-year-old girl made an outcry about the abuse in February.

Authorities had issued a warrant for his arrest in early March but Leija left to Mexico.

Leija spent Monday night in the Brownsville City Jail and appeared before a municipal judge on Tuesday morning where he was issued a total of $200,000 dollars in bonds.
