State troopers arrested a 22-year-old Edinburg man accused of smuggling a person underneath his van's floor board on Sunday, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Troopers say they stopped 22-year-old Jonathan Guzman of Edinburg for a traffic violation near U.S. Highway 281, north of Farm-to-Market Road 1017 in Hidalgo County.

When they searched Guzman's vehicle--a 2017 Dodge Caravan--they found one person "concealed under miscellaneous items on the floor board," and another "concealed within the factory storage compartment located behind the driver seat area of the floor board," according to the news release.

Guzman was charged with smuggling of persons, a second-degree felony. He was transported to the Hidalgo County jail.

The two people were turned over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, according to the news release.
