25-year-old Mission man sentenced to 10 years in prison for transporting cocaine
A judge on Wednesday sentenced a 25-year-old Mission man to 10 years in prison for transporting more than 50 pounds of cocaine in 2016, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Mario Alberto Garrido, 25, of Mission pleaded guilty to the charge on Nov. 8, 2016.
Authorities stopped Garrido in Mission for a traffic violation on June 2, 2016. After a K9 alerted to the vehicle, authorities found approximately 23 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a compartment in the trunk.
Garrido says he had been involved in transporting and distributing cocaine since he was 12 years old, according to the news release.
The FBI and Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office conducted the investigation.
