27-year-old McAllen man charged following fatal motorcycle crash
A 27-year-old McAllen man has been charged following a fatal motorcycle crash last month.
Mario Anthony Medrano, 27, of McAllen was charged with criminal negligent homicide, a state jail felony, according to a criminal complaint obtained by CBS 4 News.
Police say on Jan. 29 in Mission, Medrano was driving a white box truck when he exited a private driveway onto Shary Road, failed to yield the right of way, and "attempted to enter the center turn lane to then merge onto northbound traffic," according to the criminal complaint. A motorcyclist, later identified as Kevin Chavana, 20, of Sullivan City, who was traveling southbound, struck the box truck, as CBS 4 News previously reported.
Chavana was pronounced dead at a local hospital, Lt. Jody Alan Tittle told CBS 4 News on Jan. 30.
According to Hidalgo County jail records, Medrano was released from county jail Thursday on a $50,000 bond.
Medrano’s attorney, Andre Maldonado, wasn’t immediately available for comment Tuesday.
Correction: Medrano's attorney is Andre Maldonado, not Santos Maldonado.
