Investigators have released the names of three people killed Friday after a head-on car crash in Willacy County.

A Cadillac Escalade started driving against traffic Friday afternoon on U.S. 77 near Conley Road, according to information provided by Lt. Johnny Hernandez, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety. The Cadillac hit a Ford Expedition head-on.

The driver of the Cadillac, 23-year-old Abraham Cerda of Brownsville, and both people in the Expedition, 72-year-old Rafael Garza and 69-year-old Catalina Garza of Port Isabel, died.

While the investigation remains ongoing, alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Three people died Friday after a head-on car crash in Willacy County.

On Friday afternoon, a Cadillac Escalade started driving against traffic on U.S. 77 southbound near Conley Road in Willacy County, according to information released by Lt. Johnny Hernandez, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

At about 1:30 p.m., the Escalade struck a Ford Expedition traveling southbound.

Two people in the Ford and one person in the Escalade died, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Traffic on U.S. 77 near Conley Road is being rerouted to the frontage road.
