A babysitter is arrested for allegedly not properly caring for the 3-year-old, she was hired to look after.
San Benito police arrested 28-year-old Alma Hernandez on child endangerment charges.
According to police, they responded to the intersection of Robertson and Resaca Drive around 5:54am on Friday, in reference to a child found unattended.
Police tried getting the toddler to show them where they he lived, but he could not give them answers.
The child was taken to the police station, while officers asked residents in the area, if they knew who he was.
About an hour later, police were called out to the 800 block of Combes Street in reference to a missing child.
That's where they spoke to Hernandez, who told police the boy had stayed with her overnight and when she awoke he was gone.
According to investigators, she noticed a chair next to the kitchen door and believed the child unlatched the lock and got out.
Police took Hernandez into custody where she was charged.
Bond was set at $5,000 and then transported to the Cameron County jail.
The mother was reunited with her child.
Child protective services were also notifed about the incident and are conducting their own investigation.
