33-year-old Weslaco woman accused of sexually assaulting a child
Police have arrested a 33-year-old Weslaco woman accused of sexually assaulting a child, according to a heavily redacted criminal complaint from the Weslaco Municipal Court and Hidalgo County jail records.
Edna Thatcher, 33, of Weslaco has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree felony, according to the criminal complaint.
Allegations surfaced on Dec. 22, 2017, when a woman filed a report saying her child was sexually assaulted by Thatcher.
On Jan. 2, detectives and forensic officials interviewed the child, who said Thatcher sexually abused them with “a little thing that’s so pointy” and “a little thing where you put papers,” according to the criminal complaint.
A forensic nurse who conducted an examination of the child stated the findings indicated an assault, according to the criminal complaint.
On Jan. 4, detectives executed a search warrant at the home where Thatcher resides and found materials “believed to have been used in the commission of the aggravated sexual assault,” according to the criminal complaint.
Thatcher was booked into the Hidalgo County jail on Jan. 9 and released the same day, according to jail records.
Thatcher couldn’t be reached for comment.
