4,000 gallons of water used to extinguish Brownsville scrap yard fire

A large fire broke out at the Jim Wilkinson Iron and Metal Inc. early Sunday morning.

Brownsville Fire Department responded to the yard on the 3100 block of E. 14 St. at around 4:30 a.m.

The fire started from a pile of leftover materials from recycled cars.

The pile contains insulation from vehicle TMs wiring as well as metal and other plastic materials.

The fire department told Action 4 News that several units responded to the scene and that the fire was classified as a heavy rescue.

Over 4,000 gallons of water were used to put out the flames.

Responders were able to get the fire under control at around 6:30 a.m.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

There have been other recent fires from this same scrap metal location.
