A Matamoros man is behind bars in the Rio Grande Valley after he allegedly tried to smuggle $467,000 worth of cocaine into the United States.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested Jose Angel Gonzalez-Arias the at the Gateway International Bridge on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old drove a 2004 Taurus with Mexican license plates from Mexico into the United States.
Customs officers moved him aside for further inspection.
Authorities allegedly found a noticed a secret compartment under one of the car seats.
According to court documents obtained by Action 4 News, the compartment contained six bundles of cocaine valued at $467,200.
Gonzalez-Arias allegedly admitted to CPB officers that he was transporting the cocaine for money.
