4th of July events throughout the Rio Grande Valley

Aside from cookouts, family reunions and fireworks, several Independence Day events will be held throughout the Rio Grande Valley.


Friday: Freedom Fest starts at 10 a.m. and the fireworks show beings at 9:00 p.m.

Friday: McAllen Convention Center- FIFA World Cup Quarterfinal viewing event at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The family friendly event consists of children TMs fun area, live music, a rattle snake show and food vendors.


Friday and Saturday: Texas Cook ~Em ~High Steaks TM. The competition starts at noon on Friday at Edinburg Municipal Park. On Saturday, the cook-off starts at 9:00 a.m.


Friday: 4th of July 7 vs. 7 Soccer Tournament. The event will begin at 9 a.m. and benefit the Pharr Fire Department.


Friday, Saturday and Sunday: 2014 RGV Summer Jam ~Rebuilding America TM. The event includes in Urban, Pop, Tejano and County musicians. Doors open at 3:00 p.m. and proceeds will benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children.


Friday: According to What Mcallen, the City of Hidalgo Independence Day Celebration will commence at 4 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Valle Alto Park.

Friday: Life in Color at the State Farm Arena with Afrojack, Borgore, Cash Cash. The event starts at 8:00 p.m. and ends at 2:00 a.m. Tickets start at $45.

Saturday: Movie Night at the Pumphouse will include bingo, kid crafts and music. The movie is set to begin at 8:20.

South Padre Island

Friday and Saturday: Starts and Stripes Country, Rock and Soul at Clayton TMs.

Friday and Saturday: Fireworks on the beach starting at 9:15 p.m.

Friday: Starting at 8:00 p.m., the 1st Annual Gary Nunn picnic will have live music at Harpoon TMs Surf

Friday: Joe Nichols and Curtis Grimes performing at the South Padre Island Convention Center. Event starts at 6:00 p.m.

Saturday: Kevin Fowler and Bart Crow at the South Padre Island Convention Center. Event starts at 6:00 p.m.

Port Isabel

Friday: Port Isabel Summer Lighthouse Movie: Watch Iron Man outside the lighthouse. Moviegoers are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and refreshments.


Friday: Salute to Freedom 4th of July celebration. The event includes fireworks, live music, food and drink and a Glow Dash 5K. The event will be held at Brownsville Sports Park starting at 4:00 p.m.

San Benito

Saturday: 8th annual ResacaFest at the Heavin Memorial Park will include live music, fireworks, food and drinks. The run starts at 8:15 a.m. and the rest of the event will be held until dusk when a firework show begins.


Friday and Saturday: 2nd annual Freedom Fest will be held at Lon C. Hill park. The event starts at 4 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m. on both day. There will be food vendors, games and rides for kids, and business vendors. Kids can also check out the arts and craft area. The event is free and you are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and blanket.

Rio Grande City

According to What McAllen, a music event will be held in Rio Grande City 4th of July, 7pm, Britton Ave Kiosk. Music will include The Vulture Club, The Casual Buds, Big River Outlaws and The John Clarke Band performs. Free lemonade and hotdogs will be offered.
