Wildlife rescue experts are asking the public to donate kiddie pools to help save the lives of 500 sea turtles affected by a cold front that hit the Rio Grande Valley.
The winter blast tore through the region on Wednesday and caught sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico unprepared.
Officials with Sea Turtle Inc told Action 4 News that as many as 500 of the sea-faring reptiles have washed up on shore on South Padre Island and Boca Chica Beach.
Rescuers spent Thursday and Friday collecting the animals but officials need temporary swimming pools to help save their lives.
Anyone wishing to volunteer or donate kiddie pools is asked to call Sea Turtle Inc at (956) 761-4511 or the UT Coastal Studies Laboratory at (956) 761-2644.
