$500,000 for intoxication manslaughter suspect in Edinburg

The suspect in a fatal accident faced a judge in Edinburg.

Jesus Castillo Avila was formally charged with intoxication manslaughter on Thursday afternoon.

The 50-year-old man is accused in a fatal accident off Sugar and Canton Roads on Wednesday morning accident.

Investigators said 68-year-old bicyclist Kenneth Bothwell was hit by a pickup truck driven by Avila.

Paramedics rushed Bothwell to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Winer Texan lived at a nearby RV park and would was on a weekly ride to a local restaurant at the time of the accident.

Edinburg police believe that Avila was under the influence of cocaine at the time of the fatal accident.

Avila remains in custody under a $500,000 bond.
