60 people remain "unaccounted for" following fertilizer plant explosion

Authorities have confirmed that 60 people remain missing following fertilizer plant explosion just north of Waco.

Both Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz hosted a press conference in West, Texas at 12 p.m. Friday.

Some 12 people were killed and 200 were injured in a blast at a fertilizer plant there on Wednesday evening.

Authorities at the press conference confirmed that 60 people remain missing.

Federal officials are continuing to sift through the damage and investigate the explosion.

Senator Cornyn said Texas is doing a good job responding to the disaster.

Both Cornyn and Cruz have met with local leaders but also residents who have lost their homes.

"In the midst of tragedy, there are stories after stories of people helping others," Senator Cruz said.

Senator Cruz said authorities need to allow time for a full investigation before offficials figure out how to prevent this from happening again.
