$600,000 bond for McAllen dress shop bandit

A 20-year-old man is behind bars after being identified as the suspect in robberies reported at a beauty salon and a dress shop.

McAllen police arrested arrested Andres Fuentes on two counts of aggravated robbery on Thursday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Fuentes is accused of two armed robberies on the city's southside on Wednesday evening.

Officers were called to a beauty salon on the 1400 block of South Jackson Road around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators said Fuentes pulled out a gun, robbed a customer and fled with cash.

McAllen police said Fuentes went to a dress shop on the 2700 block of South 23rd Street and tried to rob it.

But investigators said the owner confronted Fuentes and scared him.

Police said Fuentes dropped dropped his weapon and fled on foot.

Officers later discovered that the weapon was using was actually a toy gun.

Investigators were able to locate Fuentes after releasing his photo on Thursday and receiving tips about his location.

Fuentes appeared before a McAllen Muncipal Court judge on Friday morning where he was issued $600,000 in bonds.
