67 immigrants found at a stash house in Pharr

Authorities are investigating a human smuggling ring after finding 67 illegal immigrants inside a stash house across the street from a day care.

It all happened at a home off Lucas Avenue and North Kumquat Street in Pharr late Monday morning.

Both Border Patrol and Pharr police were at the scene.

Investigators told Action 4 News that illegal immigrants from Mexico, Central American and Peru were found inside the house.

The house was located on across from a day care.

The home's owners told Action 4 News that they had just rented out the house to a family last week.

The owners said the home was having problems with the sewage line and that city workers came out to unclog the line.

Pharr polie told Action 4 News that a man fled the scene and during his arrest reportedly fought with police and and bit one of the Border Patrol agents.

The man's name is being withheld but he is expected to be charged with assault on a public servant, resisting arrest, evading arrest and failure to identify.
