7-year-old falls into canal, frantic rescue underway
Authorities have begun a recovery mission to search for a child who fell into a canal Wednesday evening.
Action 4 News has confirmed that the 7-year-old was playing a game of tag when he fell in.
The child TMs father jumped in to try and save him, but the current took the child.
The father was getting sucked into the current as well, but was able to get out safely.
The canal is located on 5 Mile in between Ware and Bentsen Road.
The Irrigation District, McAllen Police and Texas Department of Public Safety are all on the scene searching for the 7-year-old.
DPS helicopters are using spot lights and thermal screenings to search for the boy.
Mission Dive Team has also been called in to assist with the search.
Action 4 News will provide updates on the child TMs condition as soon as they become available.
