Motorcycle officer involved in McAllen auto accident

Authorities are investigating a Thursday morning auto accident between a car and a McAllen Police Department motorcycle.

The accident happened at the intersection of Pecan Avenue and Main Street around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

McAllen police told Action 4 News that the driver of a car was headed north on Main Street and had a green light while making a left turn onto Pecan Avenue.

The driver of the car told Action 4 News that the motorcycle officer had turned on his emergency lights to chase a suspect on Pecan Avenue.

According to the driver of the car, the officer was trying to get through the intersection at the time of the accident.

Paramedics rushed the motorcycle police officer to the Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the driver of the car was taken to the hospital for observation.

The intersection is located just a few blocks away from the McAllen Police Department headquarters building.

McAllen police said there were no major damages to the car or the motorcycle but the case remains under investigation.
