Affidavit: Crack mom burns child with pipe before he calls cops

Daniela Bravo // Cameron County Jail

A mother is behind bars after telling her children someone was going to kill her while smoking crack, according to an affidavit.

Daniela Bravo is behind bars on three counts of abandoning or endangering a child with criminal negligence.

She is accused of smoking out of a silver pipe filled with crack in the bathroom while three children were home.

Authorities said they showed up to the house outside of Harlingen and found a child crying because the child's mom was making weird mouth movements. The children also heard her allegedly saying someone was going to kill her.

When deputies with the Cameron County Sheriff's Department showed up at the house, Bravo was allegedly found inside the bathroom with a bottle of Smirnoff.

She was told to stop drinking but refused to do so, authorities claim.

One of the children attempted to get the pipe away from Bravo so she would stop smoking, but one was burned because the pipe was still hot, the probable cause affidavit obtained by Action 4 News said. A pipe was recovered from the living room by authorities.

Deputies documented that the mother did appear to be under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance.

They claim Bravo was not in a mental state to provide care for the children, and exposed them to unreasonable risk and harm.

A black stain was allegedly found on the palms of her hands and her pants, which matched the pipe discovered in the living room.

All the children at the home, where the mom was allegedly smoking crack, were under the age of 15-years-old.

A bond totaling $30,000 was set for Bravo, and she was placed behind bars at the Cameron County Jail.
