Affidavit: Mother leaves toddler in car while shopping for a phone

A mother is behind bars after she left her child asleep in an unlocked vehicle while she went to look at cell phones.

McAllen police were called out to a Sprint store by employees on the 500 block of East Expressway Thursday, Jan. 30th around 1 p.m.

As authorities arrived at the scene, employees and Corina Lugo, the mother of the young child were next to a green Saturn Ion the child was left in.

According to documents, Lugo left her two-year-old daughter in an unlocked vehicle with the car still on.

Lugo reportedly said she left her daughter in the vehicle because she was asleep, and left the vehicle on for the air-conditioner so she would be comfortable.

Documents stated Lugo took her five-month-old infant with her inside the store and didn't want to wake up her two-year-old.

Authorities arrested Lugo for abandoning or endangering a child.

A relative took custody of the two-year-old and five-month-old while the mother was taken into custody.

Police transported the Lugo to the McAllen Police Department for booking.
