After assault conviction, government wants to deport McAllen man for the 5th time
After he spent 35 days in jail for assault, the government wants to deport a McAllen man for the fifth time.
Juan Manuel Herrera-Gonzalez, 30, a Mexican citizen who lived in McAllen, pleaded guilty to assault, a Class A misdemeanor, last month.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Herrera at the jail on Sunday.
"Record checks revealed the defendant was formally removed from the United States to Mexico for the fourth (4th) time on June 22, 2011, via the Del Rio, Texas, Port of Entry," according to the federal criminal complaint against him.
Herrera is charged with illegal re-entry.
Court records don't list an attorney for Herrera, who remains in federal custody and couldn't be reached for comment.
