After deadly shooting near Edinburg, investigators arrest man on capital murder charge
Investigators have arrested a 37-year-old Edinburg man accused of capital murder.
Investigators with the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office arrested Juan David Garcia, 37, of Edinburg, according to a news release from the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office.
Garcia is accused of killing 37-year-old Anastacio Rocha — who friends and family found dead on Monday night.
On Monday May 8, 2017, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to an area of heavy brush near Gladiola Drive located north of 14 Mile Line on Big Five Road in rural Edinburg, Hidalgo County, Texas, in reference to a man down.
When Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene, they discovered the body of a male, later identified as 37 year old Anastacio Rocha, on the ground near a white-colored 2014 Chevrolet Malibu passenger car. Rocha had what appeared to be at least one gunshot wound to the head area. Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace Gilbert Saenz Pct. 1, Pl. 1, pronounced the victim deceased, and ordered an autopsy. The Major Crimes Unit and the Crime Scene Specialists responded to the area to continue the investigation and process the scene for evidence.
Sheriff’s Investigators interviewed friends and family of the victim reportedly became concerned after Rocha had not returned home, so they used the vehicle’s OnStar tracking system to locate it. Once they located the vehicle with Rocha inside, they contacted the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators booked Garcia at the Hidalgo County jail Friday on the charge of capital murder.
He's awaiting arraignment and couldn't be reached for comment.
