While the country is honoring mother this holiday weekend, one Alamo family is celebrating the return of U.S. Staff Sgt. Joe Soto.
It was hard to find a dry eye in the room, when Soto surprised his third grade daughter, Star, walking into the room as his daughter and her classmates sang a tribute to fathers.
I was super happy to have him back, Star said.
It TMs been a year since Soto deployed to Afghanistan.
And it hasn TMt been easy for the family at home.
Their emotions, they are very depressed, especially the older one but we got through it and we have help from family, Soto TMs wife Amy said.
That one phone call makes your day, makes your month sometimes, Soto said.
With only five days before he has to return, Star is already making plans.
We are going to play Skipbo, Star said.
After Soto TMs wife Amy found out he would be coming home Monday she decided to make it a surprise for the girls.
It TMs pretty hard for me to keep secrets, Amy said.
A surprise the family will never forget.
I could not hold my tears back. I just couldn TMt hold them back. I am very happy, Amy TMs mother Rosie Garza said.
