Authorities are investigating a rollover accident involving an ambulance carrying a patient.
It all happened on Military Highway just west of the rural community of Santa Maria around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Full details were not immediately available but investigators said the accident involved a Weslaco EMS ambulance.
Weslaco Fire Chief Santiago Cuellar told Action 4 News that the ambulance was taking a patient to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen at the time of the accident.
Authroties temporarily shut down part of the highway due to the ambulance hitting a utlity pole and knocking down power lines.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation but Chief Cuellar confirmed that five people, including the patient, were aboard the ambulance at the time of the accident.
No major injuries were reported but paramedics rushed all five people aboard the ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
