Action 4 News is providing ARCHIVE VIDEO of a press conference by Hidalgo County leaders addressing Sheriff Lupe Trevio retiring in the middle of his third term in office.
Sheriff Trevio made the announcement just before 11 a.m. Friday.
Trevio stated in a letter addressed to Hidalgo County Judge Ramon Garcia tha the is retiring effective today.
Garcia and other county leaders hosted a press conference at 2 p.m. today to address what they are calling Trevio's "resignation from office."
Trevio was first elected to office back in November 2004 and was swept into a third term back in November 2012 but is retiring in middle of his term.
The sheriff cited the reason to retire as "external and internal pressures" that started on December 12th, 2012 when his son was arrested as part of the Panama Unit Scandal.
