A man is behind bars following a violent crime spree that all started with an argument about Facebook.

Harlingen police arrested Saul Morales Ramirez on multiple criminal charges late Monday morning.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Ramirez beat and raped a woman at her home off South F Street.

He then lied to officers about who he was but officers were able to identify through his tattoos and a Mexican voter registration card.

Action 4 News does not identify victims of sexual abuse but police confirmed Ramirez knew her before the attack.

The woman told police that she and Ramirez were arguing over her Facebook account.

Ramirez allegedly became so upset that he started to punch her in the face and other parts of her body.

She told officers that she tried to call 911 but he grabbed her cell phone and broke it.

The woman said he then grabbed a kitchen knife and raped her.

Investigators said the woman was able to call for help after he left her house.

Officers later spotted a man walking down the street matching his description but he tried to give them a false name.

Police charged Ramirez with aggravated assault, sexual assault, interfering with an emergency call and failure to identify.
