Argument leads to suspect lighting a car and house on fire

A Santa Rosa man is behind bars after he allegedly poured gasoline on his girlfriend's car and set it on fire.

Santa Rosa police arrested Alfredo Leija on multiple criminal charges late Monday morning.

Investigators told Action 4 News that it all started with an argument at outside his girlfriend's home on Milam Street around 10 p.m. Sunday.

But police said the domestic dispute quickly spun out of control.

Leija allegedly responded by pouring gas in and around his girlfriend's car and then lit on fire.

The fire then spread to the home, causing significant damage.

Fire departments were able to put out the blaze.

No injuries were reported but investigators learned that the woman's dog died from smoke inhalation.

Police are still searching for Leija and have multiple statements from witnesses who were at the incident when it occurred.

Investigators tracked Leija down to a home in the area on Monday morning where he led them on a brief foot chase.

Leija is facing arson, unlawful restraint, terroristic threat, burglary and animal cruelty charges.
