Armed man robs San Juan store in front of young boy

Armed robbery

Authorities are asking for the public TMs help in finding an armed man who robbed a convenience store in front of a young boy.

San Juan police released surveillance video showing the little boy standing frozen in shock.

It all happened at the El Tigre convenience store off Cesar Chavez Road about 11 p.m. on Sunday, July 14th.

The armed suspect is seen wearing dark shorts and sneakers with his T-shirt place over his head but not covering his face.

A little boy was in the store at the same time and appeared to be selecting something to eat at the counter.

That's when the armed suspect rushed in demanding the clerk get money from the register just a few feet from the child.

Surveillance video shows a man, presumably the boy's father, calling to him to run out of the store.

No injuries were reported but investigators say there are many witnesses to the crime but few of them reported the crime.

The boy and his father have not spoken to police while several drivers also reportedly saw the suspect but drove away without calling to report the crime.

"We are asking if there are any witnesses who saw the vehicle, said Sgt. Rudy Luna with the San Juan Police Department. We are looking for a gold, mid-sized vehicle. if they did see the suspect give us a call.

Anyone with information about the robbery to call the San Juan Crime Stoppers hotline at (956) 283-TIPS or (956) 283-8477.
