A man is behind bars after he allegedly drove drunk and killed a bicyclist in a crash.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said Leolegario Villegas was arrested after he was released from a hospital.
Authorities told Action 4 News that the 35-year-old veered off the road on U.S. Route 281 and hit a bicyclist, killing him at the scene.
The Donna resident is expected to be charged with intoxicated manslaughter and arraigned early this week.
DPS responded to the scene of the collision Saturday evening when Villegas TM Chevrolet 1500 PU lost control of the vehicle and hit the victim.
Authorities said the victim was riding a 26 inch Next Xelit Mountain Bike on the shoulder of the road
The vehicle reportedly slammed into a tree soon after.
EMS rushed Villegas to a local hospital for minor injuries.
The incident is still being investigated at this time.
