Rosalinda Martinez would not talk about why she allegedly stole over $900 worth of clothes from the superstore.
I TMm not going to talk, Rosalinda said.
Sergeant Andy Martinez with the Penitas Police Department told Action 4 news, no matter what the reasoning|it is against the law.
Martinez said Rosalinda is just one of three people arrested in the last month for allegedly stealing hundreds TM dollars worth of items from Walmart in Penitas. "We have them coming in with Walmart bags inside their pockets or purses...they go into the story, grab merchandise and stuff the items in a bag and attempt to walk away without paying for it." Martinez said that is exactly what Hugo Balderas did on Sunday. According to Martinez, Balderas was caught on camera stealing an XBOX from inside a locked cabinet at Walmart. He was arrested a short time after leaving the store and charged with theft. Martinez said, in recent years, they have seen an increase in theft cases. He believes the increase can be attributed, while still not right, to the economic situation many families in the Valley face. "They're low budge income families who want to provide more for their families. For them--this seems easy. Grabbing merchandise for their familes without paying." Martinez said, in the end, Rosalinda did pay---she was charged with theft and given a $5,000 bond.
