Authorities have identified a Harlingen man who kicked out the door of a police car and tried to escape in the waters of the Arroyo Colorado.
Harlingen police arrested 25-year-old Mickey Don Owens early Thursday morning.
Investigators told Action 4 News that a patrol officer pulled Owens on South 77 Sunshine Strip for not wearing a seat belt.
The officer reported finding a baggies of marijuana and cocaine in one of his pant pockets.
Owens was under arrest and in the back seat of the patrol unit but kicked the door out and fled down the banks of the nearby Arroyo Colorado.
The Harlingen man swam away in the water but was caught after an exhaustive manhunt.
Investigators charged Owens with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and escape.
Owens appeared before a Harlingen Muncipal Court judge on Friday morning where he was issued $52,000 dollars in bonds.
