Authorities find 47 pounds of meth inside car engine

A Mission woman is behind bars after she allegedly tried to smuggle close to 50 pounds of meth into the United States.

Vanessa Lopez drove in from Matamoros at Brownsville TMs Gateway International Bridge on Sunday night.

Customs officers reportedly found 21 bundles with 47.41 pounds of methamphetamines hidden in the engine.

Investigators turned Lopez over to Combes police, who were working drug task force duties and booked her on a state possession of a controlled substance charge.

The 25-year-old woman remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail.
