Authorities identify elderly woman struck, killed by car

Authorities have identified a woman who was struck and killed by a car during a Wednesday night accident in Edinburg.
Edinburg police said 87-year-old Francisca Lopez Tovar lost her life in the accident.
Lt. Oscar Trevio said the woman was crossing the street when a white Chrysler minivan struck her.
The driver, a 21-year-old man, stopped to render aid, but authorities pronounced Tovar dead at the scene.
Lt. Trevio told Action 4 News that the area is poorly lit and may have contributed to the night-time avcident.
Police are treating it as an accident.
The driver of the Chrysler is not expected to face charges.
