Authorities release name of inmate who died at Hidalgo County Jail

Authorities have released the name of an inmate who died after hitting his head on a wall inside Hidalgo County Jail.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies said 37-year-old Armando Charles Vasquez died while in custody earlier this week.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Vasquez was going through alcohol withdrawal and rammed himself head first into a wall.

An investigation continues into the San Juan man's death.

Action 4 News has learned that Vasquez was booked into the Hidalgo County Jail on an assault charge back on August 11th.

Vasquez had received a $10,000 bond but neither he nor his family had paid it for his release.

Court records show that Vasquez a previous criminal history that included DWI and indecent exposure going back to 2002.

Sheriff Lupe Trevio told Action 4 News that the department notified the Texas Jail Commission and the Texas Attorney General TMs Office as required by law.
