      Auto burglary suspect gets flat tire while fleeing from police

      An auto burglary suspect is behind bars after he got a flat tire and his car broke down while fleeing from police.

      Brownsville police arrested 20-year-old John Herrera, Jr. on multiple criminal charges early Thursday morning.

      Investigators told Action 4 News that Herrera was seen burglarizing a car on Castellano Circle on the city's northside.

      Herrera fled the scene in a PT Cruiser but police caught up to him.

      The 20-year-old lead police on a chase that ended when he got a flat tire and his engine started smoking off Old Port Isabel Road and FM 511.

      Officers reported seizing four car batteries from Herrera TMs car along with several tools possibly used for the alleged acts of theft.

      Herrera is facing two counts of auto burglary, evading arrest and unlawful possession of a criminal instrument charges.

      Jail records show that Herrera is also wanted on an assault of a public servant charge in Brazoria County.
