A mother and father are behind bars after their 3-month-old boy was found foaming at the mouth after being left in a hot car in McAllen.

Investigators told Action 4 News that a passerby spotted the infant inside the car at the 1300 block of East Interstate 2 around 7 p.m. Sunday.

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said paramedics rushed the boy to a local hospital where the child is listed in stable condition.

Police arrested 32-year-old Maria Hernandez and 31-year-old Jose Luis Rodriguez at the scene.

Officers charged the San Juan couple with child endangerment.

The two allegedly told police they had left the boy for "just a moment" while they went shopping.

Chief Rodriguez warns that this is the hottest time of the year.

The McAllen police chief is asking residents and visitors not to leave their children or pets alone in a hot car.
