Baby survives hour in hot car

A woman is facing criminal charges after leaving her daughter inside a hot car for nearly an hour while she went shopping.

A Mission judge charged Lorena Marilu Garza with abandoning/endangering a child.

According to reports, Garza was grocery shopping for 58 minutes before a customer noticed the 18-month old strapped in her car seat.

Mission Fire Department broke Garza's window on her SUV and rescued the little girl from the vehicle.

The incident happened at a shopping center parking lot off of Expressway 83 and Shary Road around 2:50 p.m. Thursday.

Cpl. Manuel Casas said the baby TMs mother came out of the supermarket with a shopping cart full of groceries.

According to police, the baby girl TMs mother was shocked when she realized why police were at her SUV and claimed she didn TMt know the child was inside.

Paramedics rushed the child to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Officers arrested the baby TMs mother under a child endangerment and notified the girl TMs father about what happened.

That baby could TMve died, Cpl. Casas.

The 34-year-old mother was arraigned on Thursday.

Her bond was set at $20,000.
