A middle school band director is behind bars and has been placed on administrative leave after being accused of sexually abusing a former student.
Rio Hondo police arrested David Noyola on a sexual assault of a child charge on Wednesday.
Investigators told Action 4 News that Noyola is accused of sexually abusing a teenage girl while working as band director at Rio Hondo High School seven years ago.
The former student, who is now 22 years old, came forward with the allegations in April prompting a criminal investigation.
Rio Hondo police obtained enough evidence in the case to obtain an arrest warrant for Noyola.
Noyola left Rio Hondo High School back in 2009 and got a job as band director for Miller Jordan Middle School in neighboring San Benito.
Court records show that Rio Hondo police have seized text messages between the victim and Noyola as evidence.
Noyola allegedly admitted the acts in text messages and in recorded telephone conversations.
San Benito CISD officials said Noyola has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
