A high school basketball player is recovering in the hospital after collapsing during practice early Thursday morning.
It all happened at Mission High School around 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
Mission CISD officials said a 16-year-old player was practicing with his teammates when he suddenly collapsed.
School district spokesman Craig Verley said coaches acted as first responders giving the boy CPR.
The school nurse responded to the scene followed by paramedics who rushed the high school junior to the Mission Regional Medical Center.
The teen's medical condition was not immediately available but Verley said the boy's parents were notified about the incident.
According to Verley, coaches and UIL sponsors are required to undergo CPR and first aid training while other staff are encouraged to take courses.
