Beaumont deputies find 42 pounds of marijuana in Rio Grande City woman's vehicle
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a Rio Grande City woman after they found 42 pounds of marijuana hidden within the woman's vehicle, according to a news release.
At approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday, JCSO Traffic Unit deputies stopped a vehicle on IH10 near Smith Road in Beaumont.
The driver, identified as 38-year-old Benina Villarreal of Rio Grande City, had her 18-year-old daughter and nine-year-old son as passengers.
Deputies became suspicious when speaking to Villarreal and requested to search the vehicle.
When deputies searched the vehicle, they found 17 bundles of marijuana, totaling 42 pounds, hidden within the panels of the vehicle. Jefferson County Sheriff's Office estimate the street value of the marijuana bundles at $84,000.
Villarreal was charged with possession of marijuana, and booked into the Jefferson County jail. Her bond was set at $25,000.
The car and the child were released to Villarreal's 18-year-old daughter, according to the news release.
Villarreal remains in Jefferson County jail, and couldn't be reached for comment.
