BISD votes to name lone finalist for superintendent

The job opening for superintendent was posted Friday but tonight The Brownsville Independent School District in a 5 to 2 vote named a lone finalist for Superintendent of Schools at their Board of Trustees meeting. The district offered the top spot to District Interim Superintendent, Dr. Carl Montoya.Montoya has served as BISD TMs acting superintendent since June, when former superintendent Brett Springston resigned to become superintendent of the Bartlett Independent School District in Central Texas. The trustees who voted against the proposal questioned whether if proper protocol was followed to name Montoya lone finalist but community members stood behind the decision. The new superintendent will also have tough challenges, like getting the district's nearly half-billion dollar budget balanced, and their deficits resolved.Since the trustees named Montoya lone finalist, state law requires them to name that person at least 21 days prior to a final vote on his or her employment.
