Blood donations low for Valley residents
Thu, 15 Aug 2013 13:33:01 GMT —
During the summer there is an urgent need for blood.
Every day, the Red Cross must collect almost 17,000 pints of blood for patients at nearly 3,000 hospitals across the country.
Even worst every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion.
On Tuesday Crystal Olvera with United Blood Services stopped to explain the reason for the shortage.
Olvera said the low donations are largely due to schools being out for the summer since they encompass the majority of their donations.
UBS is also making it easier for people to donate by heading to their website and filling out the pre-screening questionnaire.
It is intended to save donors time and make the process more enjoyable.
