Blown tire blamed in fatal rollover claiming Edinburg woman's life

Authorities believe a blown tire may be responsible for a fatal rollover accident that claimed the life of a woman from Edinburg.

It all happened on the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 281 just south of Ben Bolt around 12:12 a.m. Wednesday.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers are investigating the accident.

State troopers told Action 4 News that a 2003 Toyota Tundra was heading north when the left rear tire blew out.

Investigators said the pickup truck went into a leftside skid ending in a rollover accident.

State troopers reported that 32-year-old passenger Monica Velasquez Barraza was killed in the accident.

Paramedics rushed the 28-year-old male driver to Christus Spohn Hospital in Alice where he was listed in stable condition.

      The accident remains under investigation.
